Master of PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE IN DIETETICS (M.P.P.D.)
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition offers a non-thesis master’s degree for individuals that have successfully completed the Iowa State University Dietetic Internship (ISU DI). This online program is considered a professional master’s degree. Students interested in further graduate study (PhD) may require additional coursework and/or research beyond the MPP-D to gain admission into a doctoral program.
This 30-credit non-thesis program applies the 15 credits earned in the ISU DI in addition to 15 credits of online coursework. Students completing approximately 4-5 credits per semester can finish the program in 1 year. Approximately 9 credits are core courses with an additional 6 credits chosen based on the student’s professional interests and career path.
Admission requirements for the MPP-D include successful completion of the ISU DI since 2010, passing the Registration Examination for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist prior to beginning the second semester of coursework, a positive letter of recommendation from your ISU DI faculty mentor, and a professional goal statement (<500 words). The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required.
