Fundamentals of media and information literacy. Exploration of media types, trust and critical analysis of media, information and representation across platforms. (Typically Offered: Fall, Spring)

Students will learn the basics of digital storytelling as a tool for self-expression. Application of storytelling skills towards a completed digital story. Basic film, editing and sound design. Public presentation skills. (Typically Offered: Fall)

Introduces students to digital components of media fields such as digital branding, analytics, algorithms, content management systems, the creator economy, and digital content Outlines the history and development of social media and content creation since the 1980s. (Typically Offered: Fall)

Prereq: Sophomore classification
Fundamentals of developing a strong, authentic personal brand by leveraging your unique strengths, values and goals. You will learn to create, communicate and manage your personal brand online and in a professional environment. (Typically Offered: Fall)

From story-circles to the big screen, an in-depth examination of the power of applied storytelling. By examining case-studies in applied theatre, film, podcast and other digital media, students will gain an appreciation of the power of story and a deeper understanding of how to use story for social change. (Typically Offered: Spring)

Credits: 1-3. Repeatable, maximum of 6 credits.

Prereq: Instructor Permission for Course
Projects in which students may study problems associated with a medium, a professional specialization, a philosophical or practical concern, a reportorial method or writing technique, or a special topic in their field. Credit is not given for working on student or professional media without an accompanying research component. (Typically Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer)

Repeatable, maximum of 6 credits.

Prereq: Instructor Permission for Course
Professional Skills Development. Special topics course to address trending or current topics for students. (Typically Offered: Fall, Spring)

Prereq: Junior classification and Permission of Instructor
Required internship. A 300-hour (for 3 credits) internship in the student's specialization. Assessment based on employer evaluations, student reports and faculty reviews. Available only to Digital Storytelling (DSTR) majors. . Offered on a satisfactory-fail basis only. (Typically Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer)
