Analysis of the purpose and performance of commodity markets and the functioning of commodity marketing institutions. Examination of merchandising arrangements and distinguishing features of agricultural commodities. Evaluation of hedging, arbitrage, and speculative activities in spot, forward, futures, and options markets. Analysis of commodity transformation over space and time and application of valuation theory to commodity derivatives, including comparisons with derivatives on financial assets. Assessment of market efficiency, information flows, and regulatory frameworks.
