GEOL 3680: Sediments and Depositional Environments

Credits: 3. Contact Hours: Lecture 2, Laboratory 3.

Prereq: GEOL 2020
Exploration of interactions between weathering, deposition, sea-level change, tectonics, and life within depositional environments and sedimentary basins.  In this class, students will learn and practice skills related to physical/chemical properties of sediments, surficial and subsurface stratigraphic techniques, and critical evaluation of geologic data.  Students will gain the ability to reconstruct ancient depositional environments, tectonic and paleoclimate events, and three-dimensional subsurface geometries of sedimentary sequences. (Typically Offered: Fall)
