MATE 4700: Materials Selection for Engineering Design
Credits: 3. Contact Hours: Lecture 3.
Prereq: MATE 2730 or (MATE 2150 and MATE 2160)
Materials selection theory and practices with emphasis on the effects of processing on materials properties and the design of hybrid materials. Quantitative analysis, design systematics, and use of data-based software for objective selection of application-specific materials and processes. Assessment of materials performance based on multiple material properties, processing constraints and environmental and economic factors. Engineering case studies and project-based work examining optimization of mechanical, physical, electrical, magnetic, thermal or optical properties. Application of materials engineering design principles, best practices for teamwork and professional behavior, and engineering ethics.
