ABE 4340: Ecosystem Restoration Engineering
(Dual-listed with ABE 5340).
Credits: 3. Contact Hours: Laboratory 3, Lecture 2.
Repeatable.
Prereq: (BIOL 2110, BIOL 2120 or BIOL 2510); (CHEM 1670, CHEM 1770, or CHEM 1780); (ABE 4310 or CE 3720)
Apply governing principles of ecological engineering, including biological, chemical, and physical conditions, to restoration design. Ecological concepts, such as water and elemental cycling, energy flow through systems, ecological disturbance, and natural and anthropogenic stresses. Design approaches focus on nature-based solutions, stakeholder engagement, and adaptive management. Restoration applications include streams, floodplains and riparian zones, wetlands, and prairies.
